I remember seeing an advert in the window of the newsagents. Nanny needed part-time, flexy hours, little housework and minding one child. I thought an advert inthe newsagents would be for some working class family who wanted someone that they could pay a lower wage than average to, hence they didnt choose to go to a nanny agency instead. It did say that references and a crb check is needed, so its npot like they wanted any old person off the street.
Well i called and then i was asked to start straight away from monday. To my surprise, i was offered a wage higher than the average. So i was really happy about that. I came on time tp the address, but when i got there i couldn't believe my eyes, it was a huge mansion, with at least fifty bedrooms, a fountain in the middle of a huge driveway. I thought there was some kind of mistake, but before i could double check the address. A guy dressed in a security guard's outfit came to the gate, i could see a cctv camera at the top of the gate moving to focus on me, and so this mut be the guy watching me. I felt really nervous. "Are you the childminder?" he said in a stern voice. "yes, yes, the nanny" i replied nervously. The gates suddenly started sliding sideways.
What on earth, i thought, how did i manage to get this job and why did they advertise in a newsagents? Thoughts rushed through my mind as peered at ever beautiful flower lining the path that led to the mahogany double doors of this mansion. They opened before we even got there and a lady dressed in a beautful skirt and top with a graceful necklace and thin shiffon scarf around her neck waited with a big smile.
I entered into a huge hallway with marble floors a circular rug and aentire palm tree in one corner! I was stunned at the wealth and beauty, here in zone 4 london? who could afford this? this is crazy i thought as i thought back to my broken window sill, and all those DIY botch jobs around the house.
The lady was so friendly but immediately she just wanted to tell me the chores and she wasn't willing to sit and chat. To be honest i preferred this. I wasn't sure what we could talk about. but i was keen to ask one question, which popped out of my mouth, "why did you advertise this job ob a shred of paper in a newsagents window?". The lady replied.
"you didn't come here for my wealth, the advert ensured you genuinely wanted to look after my kid and you are somewhat desperate for work, so you will work hard to keep any job too". She was right if everyone knew the address from before hand online, they would have a huge line of people coming with various intentions, not necessarily dedicated.
