Being Idle

It was about three years ago and my brother and me decided to have a competition and the prize was a year of not doing the household chores that were delegated to us by our mum, instead the loser would have to do the winner's chores around the house for that year. So you can imagine just how much this competition meant to us both. I used to do all the washing machines, thats sorting through dirty clothes, washing them and then hanging them out to dry and my brother used to be in charge of collecting up the rubbish and putting out the black bags. We lived in a flat and that means carrying huge black bags down 8 stairways to a massive skip like rubbish bins which you would have to use all your might to lift the dirty bag into only to come back and face climbing up al those steps.

So the stakes were high!

Anyway, the competition was to 'be idle' - who could last the longest in one position. My mum thought we were mad, she screamed at us, the washing piled up and the rubbish was overflowing for three days, for three days we didn't move except to go to the toilet. It was the epitome of all laziness, it was a complete waste of time and all because we used to accuse each other of being lazy and so we decided to prove who actually wasn't lazy at all.

Now about 15 years on, we always have a laugh about how stupid we were in those days and how much mum used to scream at us and yet we'd just keep on ignoring her. I'll never forget how smelly i was, it was the summer holidays and the sun was streaming in and both of us were perspiring and yet even turning on a fan wasn't allowed. It was crazy but we were both so determined to win.

So who won? Well, my brother was caught red-handed in the bathroom with his games console which he hid in the bathroom cupboard and he would pretend he was going to the loo but instead sit for ages in the bathroom playing his games! He's always been a cheater! Anyway, serves him right, i always made sure i rolled up my smelly dirty socks into a ball before i put them in the laundry after that day, just so i could stand there and watch him cringe as he had to use his hands to unravel them before putting them in the washing machine!
